Site Description:

University of Zambia, School of Medicine (UNZA-SOM), Department of Medicine / University Teaching Hospital, Adult & Emergency Hospital (UTH-A&E) is the main University with the Teaching Hospital located in the capital city, Lusaka in Zambia. UNZA-SOM opened in 1972 and is the oldest University in Zambia whose vision and mission are;

  • Mission: To provide relevant, innovative, and demand-driven higher education for socio-economic development.

UTH- A&E is a main referral tertiary Hospital in Zambia. The hospital is centrally located in Lusaka which is the capital city and patients are referred from all over the country. The hospital is functions as a teaching hospital and is a good center for research. The Hospital houses Tropical Gastroenterology and Nutritional Group (TROPGAN), a research unit nested within the University of Zambia, School of Medicine and is also constituted as a non-governmental organization (non-for-profit company registered with PACRA). It was founded in 1999 and occupies an important role within the medical school. Over the past 15 years, TROPGAN has completed over 20 research studies funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UK Wellcome Trust, UK Medical Research Council, U.S. National Institutes of Health, European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership, and other funders. Its primary focus is on translational science related to intestinal and liver disease and nutritional issues.
